DECKMAN v8

B&G Deckman software includes all the tools you need for short course round the buoys racing, long distance offshore and ocean racing.

Deckman has been used by winners in every field, from sportsboats to the Volvo Ocean Race and America's Cup. Every boat in the 2005-6 Volvo Race used Deckman for routing, navigation and instrument control.

NEW - Deckman v8.2

Deckman GRIB view Deckman v8.2 exclusively integrates the GRIB.US weather technology, providing users seamless access to the service from within Deckman. GRIB.US weather files are available in resolutions up to 0.5 degrees. After download the file is displayed immediately (see image). The following items are new in v8.2:
  • GRIB.US weather service integration
  • Default weather representation enhanced. Wind displayed using arrowpoint size and colour, user options available
  • Access to Wind Hold values via toolbar button on Start Screen
  • What If? has added waypoint control features (advance, retreat, ping)
  • Enhanced Timeplots
v8.2 is available for download here, this download can also be installed as a demonstration version. Deckman users currently running a v8.x version are able to upgrade to v8.2 for no cost using the same release codes.

Key Features

Tactical Navigation

Deckman Nav screen Deckman provides a fully featured tactical navigation interface so that the tactician/navigator has a clear overview of the racing area including a choice of charts from leading suppliers:
  • C-Map MAX*
  • Euronav Livechart*
  • Maptech/BSB
  • ARCS
Tactical data is overlaid on the chart area including tidally corrected laylines based on Target TWA, wind history, GPS and D/R track history etc.

Chart and tactical layers are configurable by the user to minimise the data displayed on the Nav screen, allowing users with RaceVision™ and lower resolution deck screens to optimise the available data.

Start line

Deckman Nav screen The start screen provides a full overview of the start line area allowing the tactician to provide time/distance information to the favoured position on the startline.
  • Graphic display shows relative positions of line, boat and laylines
  • Time and distance data to line intersections and line ends
  • Line Bias Angle and distance gained through starting at favoured end
  • "Time To Go" or "Time To Burn" options
  • Wind Hold feature freezes the wind direction to prevent erroneous readings during the confused pre-start period
  • Boatlength Grid feature
  • Advanced rate-of-turn and acceleration calculations allow accurate time estimates
Start options allow the user to adjust boat parameters, set multihull mode and offset the GPS antenna position. Screen elements can be adjusted for optimum visibility.

Data analysis tools

Deckman Nav screen Deckman allows the user to set up customised data analysis tools, including Time Plots (shown left) and custom log reports, or to extract data from the integrated database which stores data for the last year.
  • Time Plots allow graphic representation of data and advanced measurement tools
  • Integrated database logs data at 1Hz for a week, then at reduced frequency for a year
  • Reports Log Editor can generate simple text logs for quick tasks or automated log entries
  • Speed Test allows comparison of two sets of data, used for comparing settings, sails etc.
  • Graphical selection of Time Plot period for extraction of extended data from database
The TT Reporter Add-in can be used in conjuction with the Report Log Editor for reporting via Thrane & Thrane™ (or compatible) Sat-C terminals.

Optimum Routing

Deckman Nav screen Deckman provides the best optimum routing calculations available. Used to win all the classic ocean races the GRIB-enabled routing is now available to all v8 users at no additional cost.
  • The most accurate routing available
  • Utilises industry standard GRIB weather files
  • Optimum Route details
  • Option to animate the route displaying weather or tide at each time point
  • Reverse routing enables comparison of competitors positions
  • Advanced GRIB editing tools allow modification of forecast data to suit observations
Deckman provides options for obtaining weather files from both the OCENS Weathernet and Saildocs services. This data can be used in the optimum routing function or displayed on screen as a weather overlay.

Instrument integration

Deckman operates a two-way serial interface with your instrument system to allow both input of current instrument data (GPS position, boat speed etc.) for display and further calculations, along with the ability to send data back to most instrument systems for display, calibration, damping and other operations.

Deckman is compatible with the following instrument systems:
  • B&G WTP2
  • B&G WTP
  • B&G Hercules
  • B&G Hydra
  • B&G H1000
  • NKE
  • Ockam
  • Silva
  • most other systems using the NMEA 0183 option
With suitable hardware it is a simple task to display Deckman on remote deck screens or networked systems to enable data sharing.

Advanced Options

  • Winning Tides database support
  • SHOM (France) tidal database support
  • 2-Boat Telemetry module
  • Laser Rangefinder module
  • Alarm Management Add-in (SS Relay)
  • Sat-C Reporting Add-in (TT Reporter)
